S 1.57 Up-to-date infrastructure and building plans
Initiation responsibility: Top Management
Implementation responsibility: Planner
Building plans, emergency evacuation plans, fire department access plans, etc. (see also S 1.11 Plans detailing the location of supply lines and S 5.4 Documentation on, and marking of, cabling) should be updated immediately after all construction projects and after expanding the infrastructure or security technology to reflect the changes made.
This is necessary for the following reasons:
- to maintain the defined security level,
- to react optimally to emergency situations,
- to facilitate the performance of audits and inspections, and
- to enable safeguards to be completely and adequately planned and implemented.
Only storing the plans with the building administration responsible, for example, is simply not enough. In the event of damage or during an emergency, for example when cables are damaged or a water pipe bursts, valuable time for error localisation and troubleshooting may be lost. The person responsible for managing the plans, usually someone in building services, should also be able to read the plans. Personnel should be trained and instructed accordingly to this end, if necessary.
Review questions:
- Are all infrastructure and building plans up to date?
