S 2.89 Deinstallation of standard software
Initiation responsibility: Head of IT
Implementation responsibility: Head of IT, Administrator
When de-installing software, all files must be removed which have been created for the operation of the software on the IT system, and all entries in system files which were made in relation to the product must be deleted. With many software products, files are created during installation in various directories on the IT system or existing files are altered. The user is often not even informed of all the changes on the IT system made during installation.
In order to be able to perform a complete de-installation, it is therefore helpful to track the system changes made during installation, either manually or with the aid of special tools. If this is not performed, experience has shown that a de-installation only takes place in a rudimentary way or that it is not carried out for fear of deleting important files during de-installation.
Review questions:
- Is an overview of all software versions available?
- Is it ensured that all created files and entries in system files are removed and/or deleted when de-installing software?
- Are system changes made during the installation of software recorded?
