S 2.391 Timely provision of information to the fire safety engineer
Initiation responsibility: Fire Safety Engineer, Building Services Manager
Implementation responsibility: Building Services, Fire Safety Engineer
The fire safety engineer must be informed of all conduit and cable routing work to be done that affects any cut-outs in walls or any needed corridors or escape and rescue routes. This information must be provided so far in advance that the fire safety engineer has enough time to include all aspects of the structural fire protection in the planning and execution phases of the work to be performed.
The fire safety engineer must be informed far enough in advance, even while the work is being done, so that the fire protection measures can be inspected for proper execution before they become inaccessible as construction progresses, for example because a suspended ceiling has already been completely installed.
It must be ensured that the fire safety engineer is included throughout the process using corresponding organisational instructions, and this must also be documented in the construction planning and approval documentation (refer also to S 1.6 Compliance with fire-protection regulations).
Review questions:
- Has the inclusion of the fire safety engineer in the cable routing work been put down in writing in the form of an organisational instruction?
