S 2.467 Planning regular restart cycles of terminal servers
Initiation responsibility: Head of IT, IT Security Officer
Implementation responsibility: Administrator
In order to guarantee smooth terminal server operations, regular restart cycles should be planned. During the controlled shutdown and restart processes, maintenance works controlled by scripts can be performed. Furthermore, these processes limit the impact of possible storage leakages which could reduce the efficiency of the terminal servers over time.
In large terminal server systems, restart cycles should not be performed for all terminal servers simultaneously, so as to distribute the loads for the administration servers during restart over a longer period of time. Moreover, terminal servers running active user sessions should be exempt from restart.
For this, a restart schedule must be drawn up based on the current design of the terminal server environment.
Review questions:
- Has a schedule for the controlled restart of terminal servers been drawn up?
