S 3.4 Training before actual use of a program
Initiation responsibility: Supervisor, Head of Personnel
Implementation responsibility: Specialists Responsible, Supervisor
Damage caused by improperly handling IT applications can be avoided if the users receive thorough instructions for the IT applications they use. For this reason, it is essential to adequately train the users before they take over IT-based tasks. This applies to the use of standard program packages as well as to specifically developed IT applications.
Furthermore, training must also be provided after making extensive changes to an IT application.
If there are easy-to-understand manuals or help information available for the IT applications, the users can be requested to familiarise themselves with the IT applications instead of providing them with training. One of the most important prerequisites for self-training, though, is that the users are provided with adequate time to familiarise themselves with the IT applications.
Review questions:
- Are employees to take over a task adequately trained?
- Are the employees trained comprehensively after extensive changes to an IT application?
- Do the employees have enough time and the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new tasks and applications?
