S 6.22 Sporadic checks of the restorability of backups
Initiation responsibility: Head of IT, IT Security Officer
Implementation responsibility: User, Administrator
It must be determined if a set of data can be reconstructed from the existing backup copies of the data. Technical defects, incorrect parameter settings, possible ageing of the media, inadequate data media management, or non-compliance with the regulations specified in a data backup policy may result in it not being possible to reconstruct a database. For this reason, sporadic checks are required to see if the data backups created can be used to restore lost data.
Review questions:
- Is the ability to restore the data backed up checked regularly?
