S 6.143 Provision of terminal server clients from depot maintenance
Initiation responsibility: Head of IT, IT Security Officer
Implementation responsibility: Administrator
If a terminal server client fails, the applications on the terminal server are no longer available to the user affected. Therefore, substitute IT systems should be kept available when using terminals which do not have their own operating system (thin clients). In order to quickly replace defective IT systems, the required terminal software can be pre-installed and configured in the currently needed version.
In this respect, the amount of systems to be provided must be adequately oriented towards the number of workplaces and the failures to be expected. In a harsh environment, for example with large amounts of dirt or dust as well as extreme temperatures, the service life of the clients installed may be reduced significantly. Such general conditions must be included in the calculation.
The withdrawal of terminal server clients as substitute systems as well as the provision of new systems should be documented.
Review questions:
- Is a sufficient number of terminal server clients kept available as substitute systems?
- Is the withdrawal of terminal server clients as substitute systems documented?
