S 6.144 Configuration of terminal server clients for dual use as normal client PCs
Initiation responsibility: Head of IT, IT Security Officer
Implementation responsibility: Administrator
If the central terminal server service fails, emergency operations can be maintained temporarily on the client PCs due to the precautionary installation of those applications that are used on the terminal server. Prerequisites for this are workstation computers that have sufficient resources and an independent operating system that is able to execute the programs.
For this purpose, a selection menu can be set up allowing the user to choose during the booting process between running the system in the client server mode or in the terminal server configuration. On conventional client PCs (fat clients) which are already able to execute applications independently during normal operations and only obtain specific applications from the terminal server, there is also the option of installing software in parallel.
For the users, training courses in which the correct use of these options is shown should be held.
For the use of the terminal as client PC, the module S 3.2 Servers under Unix must also be taken into consideration.
Review questions:
- Did the users receive training regarding the dual use of client PCs as terminal server clients?
